Boundary Points and Resolution

چکیده
We use the notion of boundary points to study resolution proofs. Given a CNF formula F , an l(x)-boundary point is a complete assignment falsifying only clauses of F having the same literal l(x) of variable x. An l(x)-boundary point p mandates a resolution on variable x. Adding the resolvent of this resolution to F eliminates p as an l(x)-boundary point. Any resolution proof has to eventually eliminate all boundary points of F . Hence one can study resolution proofs from the viewpoint of boundary point elimination. We use equivalence checking formulas to compare proofs of their unsatisfiability built by a conflict driven SAT-solver and very short proofs tailored to these formulas. We show experimentally that in contrast to proofs generated by this SAT-solver, almost every resolution of a specialized proof eliminates a boundary point. This implies that one may use the share of resolutions eliminating boundary points as a metric of proof quality. We argue that obtaining proofs with a high value of this metric requires taking into account the formula structure. We show that for any unsatisfiable CNF formula there always exists a proof consisting only of resolutions eliminating cut boundary points (which are a relaxation of the notion of boundary points). This result enables building resolution SAT-solvers that are driven by elimination of cut boundary points. This chapter is an extended version of the conference paper [9].

Severe Tropical Cyclones associated with surges frequently hits the coastal region of Bangladesh. For a reliable hydrodynamic model to simulate the severity of such cyclones, it is necessary to incorporate the meteorological and hydrological inputs properly. In order to incorporate the coastlines and the island boundaries properly in the numerical scheme a very fine grid resolution along the co...
متن کاملA method based on the meshless approach for singularly perturbed differential-difference equations with Boundary layers
In this paper, an effective procedure based on coordinate stretching and radial basis functions (RBFs) collocation method is applied to solve singularly perturbed differential-difference equations with layer behavior. It is well known that if the boundary layer is very small, for good resolution of the numerical solution at least one of the collocation points must lie in the boundary layer. In ...
متن کاملA Simple and Systematic Approach for Implementing Boundary Conditions in the Differential Quadrature Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Beams and Rectangular Plates
This paper presents a simple and systematic way for imposing boundary conditions in the differential quadrature free and forced vibration analysis of beams and rectangular plates. First, the Dirichlet- and Neumann-type boundary conditions of the beam (or plate) are expressed as differential quadrature analog equations at the grid points on or near the boundaries. Then, similar to CBCGE (direct ...

The mathematical modeling of the large deflections for the cantilever beams leads to a nonlinear differential equation with the mixed boundary conditions. Different numerical methods have been implemented by various authors for such problems. In this paper, two novel numerical techniques are investigated for the numerical simulation of the problem. The first is based on a spectral method utiliz...
